Dog and Animal Bites

Dog bites and other animal attacks can cause serious, life-changing injuries. In addition to the pain of stitches and surgery, animal bite victims often face a lifelong fear of animals, as well as self-esteem issues due to scarring or disfigurement.  These victims are often small children who have sustained injuries to the face. Ohio has strong animal control laws.

Unlike some states, dogs in Ohio do not get one free bite! Dog owners are held responsible unless there is evidence that the dog was tormented or abused. When it comes to a dangerous dog, such as a pitbull, Ohio law requires that:

• Owners must keep pitbulls secure in a locked pen with a top.
• When dogs are let out of the pen, they must be on a chain-link leash no longer than six feet, or muzzled.
• Pitbull owners are required to carry liability insurance coverage of no less than $100,000.
